What Are Veterinary Emergencies?
Here are some examples of emergencies that require immediate veterinary care:
- Choking, difficulty breathing or continuous coughing/gagging
- Blood in urine, or bleeding from mouth, nose or rectum
- Fractured bones or severe lameness
- Injuries to the eyes
- Inability to urinate or pass feces, or pain associated with urinating or passing feces
- Heat stress or heat stroke, seizures and/or staggering
- Your pet has ingested something poisonous (such as antifreeze, Xylitol, chocolate,
rodent poison, etc.) - Severe bleeding or bleeding that won’t stop
- Severe continuous diarrhea or vomiting for more than 24 hours
- Obvious signs of pain or extreme anxiety
- Refusal to drink or eat for 24 hours or more
- Unconsciousness
If you aren’t sure, be on the safe side, and get your pet seen immediately!
